In 1958 a crew of Quaker peace activists attempted to sail the Golden Rule
to the Marshall Islands to interfere with US nuclear bomb testing. This
bold nonviolent direct action inspired a worldwide movement leading to the
Partial Nuclear Test Ban Treaty of 1963.
After five years of restoration by Veterans For Peace and many friends,
the Golden Rule is once again sailing for a nuclear-free world and a
peaceful, sustainable future!
REV. GENKO RAINWATER, of Dharma Rain Zen Center, will lead a five-minute

Peace Fleet to contrast Parade of Navy War Ships in Portland
Thursday, June 9 (No time given)
Sailing in front of the Jeremiah O'Brien
Tom McCall Waterfront Park.
The Golden Rule, Kayaktivists and other peace boats will provide a message
of peace in contrast to the glorification of war and war ships on June 9
when the Navy brings their weapons of destruction to Portland's
waterfront near Tom McCall Waterfront Park.
The war ships, including a US Navy guided missile destroyer, debark
Astoria in the morning and dock at the Portland seawall in late afternoon.
We need volunteers to pass out flyers in the park and boaters to carry
the message of peace!
For more information, contact Helen Jaccard 206-992-6364 or Gerry Condon
