Hi,

I want to be sure to clearly delineate that there are TWO upcoming events
to remember the 75th anniversary of the bombs dropped on Hiroshima and
Nagasaki. Last Sunday we sent the announcement about the PJW-coordinated
Friday Rally coming up this week (which I also referenced yesterday).

The below info is about the annual Oregon Physicians for Social
Responsibility memorial event on Thursday, August 6, which is moving
online due to the pandemic (so will NOT be at Waterfront Park). The Iraq
Affinity Group has been involved in the planning for this and is signed on
as a cosponsor.

The details of the Zoom call are on Oregon PSR's website to help limit the
participation to folks who actually want to be part of the memorial, PSR
has asked that people share the link to their web page rather than the
direct zoom link when promoting the event.

I have re-edited the announcement below for clarity.

Thanks

Dear Friend,

Please mark your calendars and plan to join us on Thursday, August 6th
beginning at 6:00 PM for 75 Years Later Is Now: Hiroshima, Nagasaki, &
Ending the Nuclear Threat, an online event honoring the lives lost to
nuclear weapons and exploring how we can create a world free from the
threat of these morally unacceptable weapons of indiscriminate mass
destruction.

Our guest speakers will include Tricia Pritikin, a Hanford Downwinder,
legal advocate, and author; Harvey Thorstad, an Atomic Veteran and peace
activist; and Oregon PSR Advisory Board members Chisao Hata, a Japanese
American performing artist and community organizer, and Yukiyo Kawano, an
artist and third-generation hibakusha (atomic bomb survivor). Our event
emcee will be Kyle Iboshi, an investigative reporter with KGW News.

Our speakers will explore the lasting dangers of nuclear weapons and
nuclear injustice, discuss the importance of shifting our spending
priorities away from these weapons and towards safe and resilient
communities, and let you know how you can get more involved in the growing
nuclear weapons abolition movement.

Your tax-deductible contribution makes it possible for us to organize this
annual event and to educate, engage, advocate for a nuclear weapons-free
world. Please donate today <https://www.oregonpsr.org/donate> to support
this event and Oregon PSR's nuclear weapons abolition campaign.

Sign the Appeal of the Hibakusha for the Elimination of Nuclear Weapons.

The hibakusha appeal is a petition created by a group of hibakusha, the
survivors of the nuclear bombings in Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945. The
petition calls for the elimination of nuclear weapons, including
development, funding, testing, use, and threat of use.

This year, on the 75th anniversary of the bombings, supporting this
international petition is a main ask of Japanese groups for the United
States. Please join us in supporting this appeal from the survivors of the
atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Read the full text of the Appeal of the Hibakusha for the Elimination of
Nuclear Weapons and sign the appeal today.

Thank you for taking action by signing the hibakusha appeal, and we look
forward to having you join us online on August 6th.

In Peace and Health,

Kelly Campbell, Executive Director
