PJW supporters
I apparently never sent an email specifically announcing this Friday's
20th anniversary of the Friday Rally event, having buried the
announcement in the weekly Reports Back.
Please feel free to share this widely and we would REALLY ENJOY seeing
people who were part of the rally at any time from 2001-2020 stop by for
old times' sake! We are remaining masked up and distanced.
You can look at or download the flyer here:

20 Years Protesting for Peace and Justice
Friday, November 5, 2021 5:00 - 6 PM
Weekly Friday Rally for Peace and Justice
Pioneer Courthouse Square, SW Yamhill and Broadway
please mask up and stay distanced for safety
Members of the Portland peace community have held weekly rallies at
Pioneer Courthouse Square since shortly after the US invasion of
Afghanistan. The rallies focus on human rights issues-- domestic (police
abuse, houselessness, racism, spying) and international (US wars,
Israel/Palestine, drone warfare, climate change). November 5 marks 20
years of an unbroken weekly presence downtown, rain, shine, snow, wildfire
smoke and COVID notwithstanding. Peace and Justice Works (PJW) Iraq
Affinity Group invites the community to celebrate 20 years of the weekly
Friday Rally for Peace and Justice at 5 PM this Friday, November 5, at 5
PM at SW Yamhill and Broadway, the SW corner of Pioneer Courthouse Square.
The rally is followed by a 20 minute march around downtown.
For those who think the US is no longer at war, PJW points to the US'
efforts to use neighboring countries' airspace*-1 and NATO assistance*-2
to bomb Afghanistan after its troop withdrawal and US bombings in Syria in
September*-3 and October*-4 as examples that the wars continue.
The rally was started by Portland Peaceful Response Coalition (PPRC) in
2001. PJW's Iraq Affinity Group took over hosting duties when the COVID
lockdown began in March, 2020.
The November 5 event is coordinated by Peace and Justice Works Iraq
Affinity Group. For more information, contact Peace and Justice Works at
503-236-3065 or iraq at pjw.info.
