Community Groups to Hold News Conference Tuesday
In Advance of Police Joint Terrorism Task Force Report

News Conference: Tuesday, January 25 12:00 Noon

-------------

Portland, OR- Organizers concerned about the Portland Police Bureau's
participation in the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force will speak at a
virtual news conference on Tuesday, January 25, 2022 at 12 noon in
advance of the Annual Report being heard at Council the next day. The
Report was released on Friday and can be found at
https://www.portland.gov/sites/default/files/council-documents/2022/2022-ppb-report-to-city-council-on-jttf_0.pdf
The news conference will be livestreamed at
https://youtube.com/peaceandjusticeworks .

Groups and individuals expected to speak include Unite Oregon, ACLU of
Oregon, local attorney Brandon Mayfield (survivor of improper FBI
spying), Portland Japanese American Citizens League and 350 PDX.

The City Council is slated to hear the Report on Wednesday, January 26
during the morning session (likely about 10 AM). The Reports have been
required since 2019 when the City voted to stop assigning officers
to the FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force but to continue a "case by case"
relationship. Wednesday will be the first time since then that the
public will be allowed to speak during the Council's hearing on the
JTTF.

The livestream is being coordinated by Council on American Islamic
Relations (CAIR) Oregon and Peace and Justice Works/Portland Copwatch.
