Hello IAG supporters

We've been part of planning for the Oregon Physicians for Social
Responsibility annual Hiroshima/Nagasaki memorial and asked to be listed
as a cosponsor. Those of you on our snail mail list got information about
this in our June PJW UPDATE, which I appear to have neglected to send to
this list in its entirety.

ANYWAY, it's planned to be in-person at the Japanese American Historical
Plaza at NW Couch and Naito Pkwy at 6 PM on Wednesday, August 9, which is
2 weeks from today (my, how time flies!!).

I've clipped together a description from an email we received from PSR and
its website.

Feel free to share.

Dear Friend,

I am pleased to invite you to the 2023 Annual Hiroshima and Nagasaki
Memorial at the Japanese American Plaza on Waterfront Park (NW Naito
Parkway and Couch Street) in Portland Oregon. Oregon Physicians for Social
Responsibility (OPSR) and our partner organizations will come together to
mark the 78th anniversary of the atomic bombings on Wednesday, August 9th
at 6:00 PM, where we will honor the lives lost to nuclear weapons and
renew our commitment to building toward nuclear justice.

As the war in Ukraine ravages out of control, the existence of nuclear
weapons remains a threat to all life on our planet. While 90% of the
world’s nuclear weapons remain controlled by the US and Russia, momentum
is growing for a nuclear-free future as the majority of countries in the
world have come together to create the Treaty on the Prohibition of
Nuclear Weapons (TPNW), making nuclear weapons illegal under international
law.

Oregonians must do our part to work for a nuclear-free future! We invite
you to be a part of this year’s memorial event, which will feature the
voices of communities most impacted by nuclear injustice and make clear
the links to movements for racial, environmental, and social justice.

We are thrilled to announce a truly stellar lineup of performances and
guest speakers alongside this year’s keynote Speaker, the new Executive
Director of the Japanese American Museum of Oregon Hanako Wakatsuki-Chong.
The event will be hosted by Oregon Physicians for Social Responsibility.

In Community,

Kamil Khan, Executive Director
