Hello Iraq Affinity Group supporters
Below is the announcement that just went out to Flying Focus about the
edited-down version of the 90-minute Noor Ghazi event from June 25.

As we approach the anniversaries of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and
Nagasaki, it's also interesting that Hiroshima Day, August 6, is the 34th
anniversary of when the sanctions were placed on Iraq after its invasion
of Kuwait, and that August 14 marks 10 years since the US bombed Iraq when
the Islamic State seized parts of the country.

Anyway, if you missed the livestream and haven't had a chance to see the
show yet, here's a more compact way to watch. As noted at the end of the
FFVC email, the 1-hour show should be up on YouTube sometime later this
month.

An Iraqi American's personal story of sanctions and war next two weeks on the
Video Bus

Noor Ghazi, an Iraqi-American peace activist based in the United States,
appeared on a livestream presentation for Portland audiences on June 25, 2024,
organized by Peace and Justice Works Iraq Affinity Group. The event was hosted
by KBOO's Lisa Loving.

Noor's story is deeply personal, but it also reflects the experiences of tens of
thousands, perhaps millions of Iraqis who lived under sanctions and war, many of
whom fled the country after the 2003 US invasion or, like Noor's family, when
the "civil war" erupted in 2006. It's a story of surviving war and trauma, a
story of adjusting to being a refugee resettled in America, and a story of hope
against all odds.

Ms. Ghazi explained that she's been returning every year recently and produced
two documentaries about Mosul, where the younger generation gives her hope for a
better future for her country of origin.

Ms. Ghazi holds an MA in Peace and Conflict Studies with a focus on
International Peace Development. She serves as Director of the University
Sponsorship Program at Guilford College with Every Campus A Refuge (ECAR).

So grab a handkerchief (and brace yourself for hearing about death and
trauma) and watch these two half-hour shows by Flying Focus, edited from the
original 90 minute video.

The original video was created on Zoom with technical direction by Moss Drake,
and other video provided by the participants. The Flying Focus show was produced
and edited by PJW Iraq Affinity Group and Flying Focus member Dan Handelman.
