Hello peace-loving people
This Friday, November 1, marks 23 years of the Friday Rally for Peace and
Justice! (Well, technically it would be Monday November 4 but that's not a
Friday, is it?)
It'll be the last rally before the election, but we don't pay too much
attention to these fluctuations since we've been protesting under GW
Bush, Obama, Trump and Biden. (And before Friday rally PJW protested under
GHW Bush and Clinton).
They all seem to share a propensity for military spending and war. Not to
mention that even as close as we got to police reform on a national level
after George Floyd was killed, most meaningful legislation didn't pass.
That includes getting rid of qualified immunity for police, who can't be
held liable when they are engaged in an official act... hey, is that where
the Supreme Court got the idea that Presidents can also get away with
murder? Hmm.
So while we won't be focusing on specific candidates we will continue to
talk about Israel/Palestine, Iran, US military endeavors, local police
issues, and of course Iraq.
Also what I think is a first happened-- the person who took photo I
mentioned someone taking of us last week actually sent it! And wrote
"thank you for letting me be part of the movement." (!) Seven of the 9 of
us who were marching are in the picture:

I also thought to look back at the War Resisters League flyer about
military spending, and I _think_ the military budget in 2001-2002 was $333
billion which in 2024 dollars is $593 billion. So why is it now over $870
billion???
OK, that's my pitch in case you want to participate or send a message to
share. 5 PM Friday November 1, SW Yamhill and Broadway...
thanks
