Hi
The below letter is pretty self explanatory. It went out to Oregon's
Senators and the media a short time ago. Feel free to share out and/or to
add your voices.

Subject: Please end the US' unlawful bombing of Yemen
Dear Senator Wyden and Senator Merkley
We hope that you have been able to see the letter dated July 10 sent to your
colleagues Tim Kaine, Todd Young, Chris Murphy and Mike Lee regarding the
ongoing armed conflict involving the US military against Yemen.

Though our group was not able to sign onto that letter before it went out, we
agree that the President should not continue engaging in hostilities without
congressional authorization. We also agree that the underlying cause is the
failure of the US and other world actors to stop the Israeli assault on Gaza.
We are troubled by the inconsistent way in which war is addressed by Congress.
When President Trump was in power, Congress tried once to rein in the
President's War powers in Yemen and twice to stop the President from supporting
the Saudi Arabian government's involvement in Yemen, and Trump vetoed all three
efforts.
Earlier this summer, President Biden claimed that the US was not at war
anywhere in the world. During the debate held on September 10, Vice President
Harris made a similar claim saying that no American troops were deployed in
combat zones. We don't want to hear parsing of these comments in
technicalities-- the US is at war in Yemen.
The US is also at war in Syria and Iraq, and has troops deployed in both
countries including a contingent from the Oregon National Guard that shipped
out in August.
Please do what you can to
a) end the US-backed conflict in Gaza
b) stop American hostilities in Yemen
and
c) make it clear that when people say "political violence is not
acceptable," that also means violence directed against people or
governments in other nations, whether it's called war or not.
Thank you
