Hi
Last night I realized that the earlier emails about this action (and the
web page) had a cut and paste error in the headline. (it had some
information about the upcoming October 11 mobilization mixed in.) Oops!

Hope to see folks this afternoon-- it promises to be a sunny and mild day
to let commuters know we want to "Stop the War on Syria" (as the Tower of
Peace says).

EVENT: "The US Attack on Syria One Year Later" Visibility Action
   TODAY Wednesday, September 23, 2015 4:00 PM

"The US Attack on Syria One Year Later"
                             Visibility Action
             TODAY Wednesday, September 23, 2015 4:00 PM-6:00 PM
SE Hawthorne & Grand (East end of Hawthorne Bridge)

Today, Wednesday September 23, 2015, one year since the US began bombing Syria
under the guise of fighting the Islamic State/ISIS. Portlanders will gather to
protest the ongoing US military action. The Peace and Justice Works Iraq
Affinity Group is coordinating a visibility action featuring its 12-foot-tall
"tower of peace" at the east end of the Hawthorne Bridge (SE Hawthorne & Grand)
from 4:00 to 6:00 PM.

The US continues to assert that one of their goals is regime change in Syria,
training and arming "moderate" rebels, while at the same time tacitly
supporting Al Qaeda offshoot the Nusra Front since they too are fighting ISIS.
Meanwhile, the US has now gained full cooperation from Turkey, which is using
the chaos as an excuse to bomb Kurdish nationalists in Iraq and Syria, even
though those Kurdish fighters have proven the most effective at keeping ISIS
from holding territory. The best solution? Stop US intervention and have a
United Nations brokered negotiation, provide massive humanitarian aid and help
resettle refugees.
