Hi again PJW supporters
Just a reminder that Friday marks 15 years of the PPRC's weekly rally!
Quite an accomplishment. This is a slightly updated version of the listing
we sent last week. Especially with US air force and special forces
directly engaging in combat in Iraq again, it's important to keep the
issue of US militarism in the public eye. Hope to see you Friday!

POST-9/11 WEEKLY PEACE RALLY MARKS 15 YEARS
Portland Peaceful Response Coalition began "Friday Rallies for Peace and
Justice" in November 2001
Friday, November 4, 2016, 5:00 PM
"15 Years Speaking Out For Peace and Justice"
Expanded Friday Rally w/Portland Peaceful Response Coalition
Pioneer Courthouse Square, SW Yamhill and Broadway
On the night of September 11, 2001, Portland area peace activists came
together, predicting that the events of that day would be used as an excuse by
the US to go to war. A march of over 4000 people was quickly organized,
followed by an emergency march the day the Afghan war began (Oct. 7, 2001).
About a month later, the group that grew out of the first meeting, the
Portland Peaceful Response Coalition (PPRC), held the first of its weekly
Friday Rallies for Peace and Justice. On Friday, November 4, 2016, Peace and
Justice Works (PJW) Iraq Affinity Group is helping PPRC mark 15 years since
that first protest, combining efforts for that day's 5 PM event at the SW
corner of Pioneer Courthouse Square (SW Yamhill and Broadway). This will be
the 784th continuous weekly rally, rain or shine, opposing over the years US
wars (Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan, Somalia, Yemen, Libya, Syria), US foreign
policy (support for Israel's occupation of Palestine, ill-advised trade
deals), climate change, police brutality, racism, Islamophobia, and other
issues.
