It is interesting to ponder today's historical significance after last
month's general heralding of George HW Bush as a hero, rather than a war
criminal. Here's a link to a good video from the Real News presenting the
other side:

It was 28 years ago today when Bush, after using January 15 (Martin
Luther King Jr.'s Birthday) as the deadline for Iraq to get out of
Kuwait, launched a massive assault on the Iraqi people (known colloquially
as the "Gulf War").

As is the tradition since the 2011 20th anniversary, I have updated the
sign in our front window to reflect another year passing. The sign itself
is getting more and more deteriorated, a reflection of America's
collective memory and the ongoing harm to the people of Iraq.

At our meeting on Monday we firmed up plans for a March event to mark 16
years since the 2003 invasion of Iraq, we will have a formal announcement
out within the next week or so.
