We recently received a letter from the IRS informing us that we were 
supposed to start filing our taxes electronically last year, but that for 
"small" organizaitons like ours there was a one year delay in the 
requirement.

Options they give us are to hire someone to file on our behalf or to buy 
software and have someone in the organization become an authorized e-file 
provider. The rules for that are spelled out here:

It involves giving in your personal social security number (or tax id 
number), some other financial information, a mobile phone linked to your 
name, and a _thumb print_ (which they note the local police will be happy 
to help you do for a small fee).

Obviously not a lot of this sits well with us as a group with about a 
$20,000 a year budget and a healthy distrust of law enforcement.

THAT SAID if you are or know or are willing to become an authoried e-file 
provider please let us know by Monday, Feb. 28 at 12 noon so we can begin 
a broader stragegy to find help with this. Grumble grumble.
